I’m Alison! I’ve been overweight since I was a baby and the doctor told my mother she had to switch me to skim milk because I was gaining weight too quickly. At just 5’1″, I eventually tipped the scales at 353.4 pounds. This blog is a tool for me to reclaim ownership of my life, stop defining myself by the limits imposed upon me due to my size, and become an AFTER.

Read my back story here.

On March 31, 2015, I reached the 100-pounds lost milestone! Read about my reaction and major tips and tricks here.

Check out photos of me through the years here.

In addition to losing weight, I get really pumped up about cooking super awesome food, expensive makeup, Mad Men (I’d like to be Joan, but I’m pretty sure I’m a cross between Betty and Peggy), and cats. Oh, and my ridiculously handsome and clever husband.

  1. I just read your story here. What a thoughtful, fearless story you tell. Yes, I am working to be an after as well. I have had some of the same ups and downs as you, but for different reasons. I am glad I found your blog and look forward to following with you as you progress through this journey.

    • Thank you so much, Bobby!! I’m here to learn as much as I can from others going through similar situations, but also to help and support those same people as much as I possibly can.

  2. Alison – I read you story and what strikes me most is your persistence. I love that despite injury and sliding back sometimes, you have not given up. I was a yo-yo dieter before I got healthy and I know how hard it can be to keep finding the motivation to begin again. I also think you are very wise to realize that there is an underlying reason why you struggle with your weight – and once you figure out what it is, things will be so much easier. It certainly worked that way for me…. Although knowing why and actually healing that part of myself were two different things, and I’m still working on the healing. It takes a long time. You can totally do this! If there is anything I can do to support you or answer any questions, please let me know! Keep going 🙂
